Stockholm, Sweden – Swedish defence and aerospace giant Saab delivered a robust second-quarter performance for 2025, significantly surpassing analyst expectations and showcasing resilience in a volatile global defence market.
The company reported an operating profit of SEK 1.9 billion, marking an impressive 46% increase compared to SEK 1.3 billion in the same quarter of 2024. Market analysts polled by Bloomberg had projected a more modest figure, just exceeding SEK 1.7 billion, making Saab’s results a clear beat.
Saab’s revenue for Q2 climbed to SEK 19.7 billion, up from SEK 15.2 billion in the previous year—demonstrating a potent year-over-year growth of approximately 30%. This increase is attributed to sustained demand for Saab’s advanced defence technologies, including radar systems, submarines, and the Gripen fighter aircraft.

However, order intake saw a year-on-year dip, recorded at SEK 28.4 billion for the quarter versus SEK 39.6 billion during Q2 of 2024. While representing a decline, the order level still reflects continued strong customer engagement and global interest in Saab’s portfolio amid rising defence spending across Europe and other markets in response to global security tensions.
Saab’s leadership expressed confidence in the company’s trajectory.
“We are strengthening our position in the market and interest in our products and solutions remains high,” said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, in a press statement.
Industry analysts suggest Saab’s strong results reinforce the company’s strategic position as a key player in the global defence sector, especially amid growing geopolitical uncertainty and rising defence budgets in response to ongoing conflicts and strategic realignments in Europe and beyond.
With an expanding order backlog and an increasingly important role in supplying European and allied defence forces, Saab appears well-positioned to maintain momentum in the second half of 2025. Investors and markets alike will be watching closely to see how the company continues to capitalize on its upward trajectory.
