Norwegian Air has taken a decisive step in its long-term growth strategy with a substantial fleet expansion, announcing plans to acquire 30 additional Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft for delivery in 2031.
The order will bring Norwegian’s total 737 Max 8 fleet to approximately 80 aircraft, strengthening the carrier’s position in the Nordic aviation market and underscoring its ambitions for sustainable and cost-efficient operations.

Chief Executive Geir Karlsen described the deal as a milestone in the airline’s development, emphasizing that Norwegian secured the aircraft on favourable financial terms. He added that the investment will allow the company to scale its operations in line with projected demand while advancing its environmental objectives, including lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
The move highlights Norwegian’s continued recovery and renewed growth focus after years of restructuring and capacity adjustments. With a modernized fleet strategy centered on the Boeing 737 Max, the carrier is positioning itself to compete more effectively on price-sensitive European routes while integrating sustainability as a core component of its business model.
