Three stateless men, aged between 24 and 27, were arrested at Copenhagen Airport on Monday after a routine spot check uncovered €66,855 (approximately 750,000 Swedish kronor) in undeclared cash stashed in their hand luggage. Danish authorities now suspect the individuals of involvement in money laundering.

The discovery was made as part of an ongoing national initiative aimed at curbing the illicit cross-border movement of large sums of cash—a tactic frequently linked to organized financial crime and money laundering. Airport security, equipped with advanced screening technology and intelligence-led inspection protocols, selected the group for a targeted baggage check, leading to the seizure.
Under Danish and EU regulations, travellers carrying €10,000 or more in cash must declare the amount upon entry or exit. The suspects’ failure to comply with this requirement triggered a criminal investigation.
While details remain limited, authorities have not confirmed whether the seized banknotes were tracked using serial number databases or marked with forensic identifiers—methods sometimes employed in financial crime investigations to trace the origin and movement of illicit funds. Such techniques can help establish links to prior criminal activity, though their use in this specific case has not been disclosed.
The arrests underscore Denmark’s intensified efforts to disrupt financial crime networks operating through major transport hubs like Copenhagen Airport, a key gateway in Northern Europe.
