In a sharp escalation of tensions, Russia has lashed out at Denmark following Copenhagen’s decision to host a Ukrainian weapons factory. This facility, located near Skrydstrup in Southern Jutland, will house Fire Point, a Ukrainian company that manufactures war drones, robots, and weapons systems, including fuel for military operations.
The Kremlin’s reaction has been fierce, with Russian officials condemning Denmark as the “first country” to openly support Ukraine’s military efforts by allowing weapons production on its soil. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, described the Danish decision as a direct contribution to military operations against Russian cities, calling it part of Copenhagen’s “hostile, militaristic” stance.
Russia Accuses Denmark of Supporting “Terrorist Regime”
Zakharova’s statement condemned Denmark’s actions as evidence of a broader alignment with Kyiv. “Denmark has become the first country to support the terrorist regime in Kyiv and allocated territory for the production of weapons parts,” she said. “This confirms Copenhagen’s hostile course, thwarting any attempt to resolve the Ukraine crisis diplomatically.”
The Russian accusations are part of a larger pattern of hostility from Moscow, which has frequently criticized Western nations, particularly those in NATO, for their support of Ukraine. Zakharova’s comments echo Russia’s ongoing efforts to portray Ukraine’s supporters as aggressive players in the conflict, undermining diplomatic resolutions.

Strategic Importance of the Factory
The Danish government, on the other hand, has framed the factory as an important strategic asset for both Denmark and Ukraine. The announcement was made public in September, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place earlier this week.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized the facility’s significance, describing it as “strategically important” for Ukraine’s defence. His predecessor, Morten Bodskov, also praised the factory, calling it a contribution to Ukraine’s fight for freedom and sovereignty.
“This production facility is vital for both Denmark and Ukraine, strengthening our security and supporting the Ukrainian people in their struggle,” said Poulsen in a statement following the ceremony.
Russia’s Diplomatic Threats Intensify
Russia’s ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, has been particularly vocal in condemning the move. He warned that Denmark’s involvement in the weapons production could place the country directly in the crosshairs of the ongoing war. In a Facebook post following the announcement, Barbin claimed that Denmark risks being seen as a participant in the war due to its role in supplying missiles intended for attacks deep inside Russian territory.
“The Ukrainian side has very openly stated that these missiles are intended to carry out attacks deep inside Russia,” Barbin said, adding, “Copenhagen knows this and risks becoming a direct part of the conflict.”
Escalating Tensions Between Russia and the West
The construction of the weapons factory highlights the deepening rift between Russia and the West over the ongoing war in Ukraine. While the Danish government asserts that the facility is a defensive measure supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty, Russia views it as an active engagement in the conflict.
This development also underscores the larger geopolitical struggle, where both sides continue to draw lines in the sand over military support and territorial sovereignty. As tensions rise, the factory near Skrydstrup will become a focal point in the larger narrative of the Ukraine conflict, symbolising the growing role of Western nations in Ukraine’s military efforts.
The diplomatic fallout from Denmark’s decision remains to be seen, as both countries brace for the continued fallout of this high-stakes international dispute.
